Foreclosure Prevention and Education Service
The Foreclosure Prevention and Education Task Force has been very busy. They have merged with HOME (Helping Oberlin Maintain Equity) which was formed by Oberlin College students to provide education and advocacy regarding the forclosure issue in Oberlin. We held a Borrower Outreach Day and prioritized efforts to work on Oberlin foreclosure statistics and causal factors in relation to Lorain County. Oberlin was verified as having more predatory lending amoung African Americans than any other group in our county over a five year period, ending in 2009. This fact was also sustantiated by the Housing Research and Advocacy Center in Cleveland.
It is important to make sure that borrowers are getting the help they need. We are here to ensure that this happens with out coalition of members. We participated in a foreclosure documentary produced and directed by Oberlin College students to help the public better understand all facets of the issue and encourage borrowers to get help sooner.
